Joseph Sullivan

Dr. Joseph B. Sullivan is an optometrist practicing in Wichita, KS.  He graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1976 with a certificate in Vision Therapy.  Dr. Sullivan is a Fellow in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.  He has served fourteen years on the Optometric Extension Program Board of Directors and has served as their Secretary/Treasurer, Director of Continuing Education and four years as President.  He is currently serving on the Kansas Optometric Association Special Olympics Committee and is Chairman of the Vision Therapy Committee.  Dr. Sullivan served as a member of the Kansas State Board of Optometry Board of Directors for nine years. Dr. Sullivan is serving on ARBO’s OE Tracker Committee and is chair of their National Board Exam Committee. Dr. Sullivan was recently reappointed head of the local Head Start’s Health Services Advisory Committee.

 In 1993 Dr. Sullivan was acknowledged by Kansas Optometry with the Distinguished Service Award for his work on the formation of the See to Learn program and again in 1999 for his work on children’s vision research.  He has served on the American Optometric Association’s Pediatric Binocular Vision and Perception Committee.  He has been a guest lecturer on vision therapy at several optometry schools and has lectured at optometric meetings in the United States, England, Australia, and Europe.  Dr. Sullivan has co-authored several articles about vision development and vision therapy.  At present, Dr. Sullivan serves on the clinical staff of Via Christi Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Sullivan serves as an adjunct Assistant Professor at UMSL’s College of Optometry, Western University’s College of Optometry and Northeastern Oklahoma State College of Optometry. 

 

Julie Toon

Dr. Julie Toon graduated from University of Missouri College of Optometry in 1998 earning the Clinical Binocular Vision/Vision Therapy Award.  Upon moving to Wichita, Kansas, she joined the practice of Dr. Joseph Sullivan.  Active in the Kansas Optometric Association, she has served on many committees, including SEE TO LEARN and Vision Therapy Consultation Committee.  She is a research collaborator with the Kansas Vision Therapy Project.  In 2001, she joined the Heart of America Optometric Congress Committee working with corporate sponsors and as the committee liaison to optometry students.  In 2004, Dr. Toon was named Kansas Outstanding Young Optometrist. She is the current president of the Eye Care Council.  She has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri College of Optometry since 2008.  Outside of the office, Dr Toon is an active member of the Rotary Club of Wichita and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  She and her husband, Scott, have seven children.
